Why should I quit smoking?

Posted by admin Jul 23 2010 20 Comments »

What are some facts that will help me remember that smoking is bad? I’ve already had skin cancer, so cancer won’t scare me into quitting since I already have it.

Cigarrettes cause wrinkles
Smoking can lead to cataracts, the number one cause of vision loss in the world
There’s hydrogen cyanide in rat poison. The same stuff is in cigarrette smoke
5-15 yrs after quitting smoking your stroke risk is reduced to that of a non-smoker
3000 ppl die each year from secondhand smoke-related lung cancer

It ages you, increases wrinkles, yellows teeth, causes bad breath & costs a fortune. Think about taking the $ you spend on smokes & putting it in a savings account – in one year you could probably have a down payment on a new car.

My grandfather lived to 98 smoking 3 packs a day. Pretty much anything can cause cancer. We already have cancer but its when your body looses its ability to resist it. I say if you enjoy smoking do it up. I never listen to the government, do you really think they want you to live a long life and pay all that social security. I have even heard that smoking reduces your chances of getting alzhiemers. So what are we to believe any more. Before your know it apples will be suspected of causing cancer. One thing that makes me want to quit is just the money really. But hey you only live once so do what you want. Also I love pissing off non smokers and most of the time its the fatties who complain. Go figure

    You know about the cancer.

Cigarette smoke is also associated with emphysema and other breathing problems.

Nicotene is addictive and causes your blood vessels to contract when they shouldn’t. I’m sure you don’t want to be a slave to nicotene!

And cigarette smoke smells bad, and makes you smell bad.

    Good luck quitting!

i ask myself that same question all the time. you have to die someday, i hate people you are like it’s going to kill you. well what is stopping a plane from crashing into your house or someone shooting you?
i don’t know, all i know is that i am very mean without one

the only reason i could come up with is that it is being banded from everywhere and sooner or later it will most likely be against the law

You should by no means quit. If you prefer lung cancer, bronchial sarcoma, larynx or pharynx cancers or even cancers of the lips, or tongue please light up. Take your pick they are all of the same attractive level . Ask the Marlboro men. He died from one of those. If in future you need some help with pain that is no longer treatable by morphine in some of these terminal cancers I will gladly supply you with the names and data of some pain clinics in your neighborhood. What they do there is cut your spinal chord: thus interrumping the pain signals, but transforming the greater part of your body into a vegetable.

I know you said that cancer won’t scare you into quitting, but my husband’s cousin just died last September of cancer from smoking and he was only 42. Is that something you would like to look forward to? He never went to the doctor until he got back pain, and so he went to the chiropractor…when that wasn’t working he decided to go to his family doctor because the pain was unbearable. That was when they did x-rays, and found that he had cancer in his lungs, liver, pancreas, and spine. They admitted him to the hospital and put him on morphine. He died one week later.
If that isn’t enough to make you quit, let me tell you about my brother-in-law who smokes and has emphysema. He is so skinny people think he looks like he’s near death. Very shortly he will need an oxygen tank…would you like to carry one of those around with you every where? They are very attractive.
Speaking of attractive, smoking causes wrinkles around your mouth, makes you have yellow fingers and teeth, makes your hair and clothes stink, and gives you bad breath.
    Need more???

Unless your skin cancer required chemotherapy, you haven’t had anything like the cancer you’ll get from smoking. Not even close to the same thing.

It’s like saying I’ve had a paper cut, so having a limb amputated doesn’t scare me.

Smoking will shorten your life. Period. And most of the time, the death will be slow and painful.

And then there’s the fact that it makes you stink and ages your skin. Every time you smoke one… non smokers can smell you coming back from your cigarette break.

How about your lungs filling up with so much water, from "Lung-Cancer" that you have to go once a week to get a huge needle point drawn into your lungs to draw all of the fluids out!! This is what happened to my grandmother before she passed in 1997.. And she got so skinny, she had to buy a whole new "Wardrobe" just so she would have something nice to wear to the doctor’s.. And to have clothing that fit, period.. But, I’m just as "Guilty" as you are, hun!! Smoking is a "pass-time" for me, and it also helps me do deal with stress much better, for some reason or another.. And like yourself, with having skin cancer already, (I have too), but you’d think I’d quit just because I loved my grandma, so much, and she died from smoking!! Nope, that dont work for me, either.. I say, when your really fed-up, you’ll quit, you really have to want to do it, and then that’s when you’ll make up your mind "It’s time" you know.. I’m not ready to quit right now either, but, when I am, believe me, "I’ll just do it" like I have so many times before! You just have to want it bad enough!! No one can tell you what to do, or how to do it, or when to do it, you yourself has to determine, "when the time is right for yourself". You know what I mean, hun! Hey, you have a "Wonderful Day" for me!! Smile!!! And dont beat yourself up so much, you’ll have your day, of not smoking when your ready!!!

To cut down on getting wrinkled severely on your face and throat. Also, smoking eats up your muscles wearing on your heart and your figure-I quit smoking and gaineed back 2 inches in my saggy butt. Now it looks prettier. You could get emphysemia which your nose closes up and your lungs cramp up and you can hardly breathe. It is miserable to get. It only improves partway if you quit at that point. So,you need to quit before this. I eat hard candy Cinnamon discs or euculyptus drops regular or sugar free. Also Nicorette.gum.

"Unless they quit, up to half of all smokers will die from their smoking, most of them before their 70th birthday and only after years of suffering a reduced quality of life.

The average smoker will die about eight years earlier than a similar non-smoker. There is strong scientific evidence that smoking is related to more than two dozen diseases and conditions. Fortunately, most of these start to reverse after a smoker quits smoking.

All smokers are at extra risk for:
Coronary heart disease (e.g., heart attacks)
    Peripheral vascular disease (circulatory problems)
    Aortic aneurysm
    High blood pressure
    High cholesterol (LDL)
    Lung cancer
Cancer of the mouth, throat and voice box
    Cancer of the pancreas
Cancer of the kidney, and urinary bladder
    Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
    Chronic bronchitis
    Emphysema
    Pneumonia
    Influenza (the "flu")
    The common cold
    Peptic ulcers
    Chronic bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease)
    Tooth decay (cavities)
    Gum disease
    Osteoporosis
Sleep problems (falling asleep inappropriately and/or frequent waking)
    Cataracts
    Thyroid disease (Grave’s Disease)

There is some scientific evidence that smoking may also be related to cancer of the large intestine and leukemia. In addition to various diseases, smoking also causes the skin to wrinkle and create the appearance of premature aging. Smoking also reduces the sense of smell and taste.

Female smokers are at an extra risk for
    Cancer of the cervix (womb)
    Menstrual problems
    Fertility problems
    Spontaneous abortion (miscarriage)"
